If you’ve swotted up on Virgin Gorda, you’ve probably salivated over The Baths: scattered granite boulders enclosing grottoes and sugar-white shores. Look no further, then, as On The Rocks is swathed inside tropical gardens only 100 yards from Little Trunk Bay’s soft sand, crystalline waters, palms and coral-reef snorkelling. Other perfect coves, including The Crawl and its steel-band barbecue shows on Thursdays, are in walking distance, enough to choose a different one each day. Spanish Town’s shops and restaurants are also close.

Comprising three circular pavilions linked together, the unusual villa is eye-catching in its own right, not least for its sprawling freshwater pool and deck. Venture up a few stairs and you’ll find the outdoor dining space beside a BBQ grill and hammock, positioned to enjoy gentle breezes and wondrous views over the Sir Francis Drake channel to other islands, or for stargazing after dark.

Just inside, the round ‘great room’ spawls below a high cathedral ceiling in vintage Caribbean fashion. Retractable doorways bring the outside in whether you’re lounging or using the impressive gourmet kitchen. There’s also a suite in this main pavilion, starring a four-poster bed, with two another two occupying separate floors in an adjacent building and the final one secluded in its own house opposite. All are ensuite and air-conditioned, and each has an exotic outdoor shower as well as a balcony or terrace so guests can watch sunrises over the ocean.
